Biography

Dr. Richard Sarnwick Board Certified Family Practice Physician

Goal: To represent Wisconsin State Assembly District 6 and promote the economic, political and social interests of the working people in our district. Before I can do that, my goal is to win the nomination and election in 2018.

Undergraduate education: B.S. in biology with a minor in chemistry from Northern Illinois University, 1975

Academic staff member and researcher: University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1975 -1978

Medical School: College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Des Moines, Iowa; graduated in 3 years with honors in biochemistry, 1981

Internship: Northwest General Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1982

Care for medically underserved: Dr. Sarnwick worked for the Public Health Service for two years in a physician shortage area, caring for the medically underserved on the north side of Milwaukee.

Military Service: Served in the Naval Air Reserves from 1971-1977

Family practice owner: Dr. Sarnwick operated his own family practice clinic in Gillett, Wisconsin. He is aware of the many challenges that face business owners including providing adequate health insurance for employees, meeting payroll, and dealing with federal and state bureaucracies. 1985-1990

1990 to present: Dr. Sarnwick has worked as a family doctor, first in Gillett, Wisconsin, and then in Shawano, Wisconsin. He has served as chief of staff at Shawano Medical Center.

Over the years, Dr. Sarnwick has taught and mentored medical students from the University of Wisconsin Medical School, working with students in a rural setting.

During his medical career, he has delivered babies, worked in emergency rooms, and has taken care of the elderly and disabled in their homes and nursing homes.

He continues to serve the residents of the district through his medical practice at the Aurora Health Services Clinic in Shawano, Wisconsin.

Founder: Shawano Farmers Market, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; currently serves as president.

Dr. Sarnwick and his wife, Gail, make their home in the country, just west of Shawano. Joining them is their dog, Ruby. Their three grown children and two grandchildren live in Wisconsin.
